How to Book a 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh from Abroad (2026–27 Guide)

Booking a 200 hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh from the USA, UK, Europe or Australia gets you a certificate that is recognised worldwide, a lower fee than most training at home, and four weeks living beside the Ganga. It also means sorting a visa, a long-haul flight, a domestic connection and a deposit with a school you have never visited. This guide takes you through how to book a 200 hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh from abroad, step by step, using our own real dates, fees and policies, so you know what to do and when.

Short version: to join a 200 hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh from abroad, pick a batch 8–12 weeks out, check the school, pay the deposit, apply for an Indian e-Tourist visa, fly into Delhi and connect to Dehradun (DED), and arrive one or two days before the course starts.

Step 1: Choose Your Batch 8–12 Weeks Ahead

Most students planning a 200 hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh from abroad book two to three months before they fly. That leaves time for the visa, cheaper flights and leave from work. Rishikesh’s main season runs from October to April:

  • November–February: cool, clear mornings (bring layers for 6 am pranayama), very few rainy days, and the most popular time to train.
  • March–April: warm days, longer evenings and green hills. A good fit if you dislike the cold.
  • May–September: hot, then monsoon. Training still runs, but it is a different experience.

For a month-by-month breakdown, read our guide to the best time for yoga teacher training in Rishikesh.

Tip: each batch takes a maximum of 10 students, so December–February batches tend to fill first. If your dates are fixed, for example because of school holidays or annual leave, reserve your place before you book flights.

Step 2: Check the School Before You Pay Anything

Rishikesh has hundreds of yoga schools, and they are not all equal. Before you send money to any school, including us, check three things:

  1. Yoga Alliance listing: search the school’s name in the official Yoga Alliance directory. A logo on a website is not proof.
  2. Recent reviews from people like you: look for Google reviews from the last 6–12 months written by international students, not only star ratings.
  3. Written policies: deposit, refund and transfer terms should be published, not made up over chat.

We wrote a full checklist on this: 10 yoga school red flags to check before you pay a deposit.

Step 3: Reserve Your Place with the USD 200 Deposit

When you have chosen a batch, send us your preferred dates and room type on WhatsApp or through the contact page. We confirm availability, then you pay the USD 200 advance deposit on our payment page. You pay the rest of the fee on the day you arrive.

Know the terms before you pay. This is a summary of our terms and policies:

  • The deposit is non-refundable.
  • You can transfer it to another batch within 6 months of enrolling, as long as you give written notice at least 50 days before your original start date.
  • Once the course has started, the fee is non-refundable.

Because of the 50-day transfer window, it is worth getting your visa and leave approved soon after you pay the deposit.

Step 4: Apply for Your Indian e-Tourist Visa

Most nationalities, including the USA, UK, EU countries, Canada and Australia, can use India’s e-Tourist visa. It explicitly covers short-term yoga programmes, so a 24-day 200 hour course does not need a student visa.

  • 30-day e-Tourist visa: covers a 24-day course with a few days either side. If you plan to travel before or after, it gets tight.
  • 1-year e-Tourist visa: multiple entries. The better choice if you might come back for a 300 hour course or a retreat.
  • Apply only on the official Government of India e-Visa website. Third-party “visa agents” often charge several times the real fee.
  • Apply at least 2–3 weeks before you fly. The official minimum is 4 days, but don’t rely on it.

Visa rules and fees change and depend on your passport, so read our full guide on which visa you need for yoga teacher training in India and confirm on the official site before you apply.

Step 5: Book Flights to Delhi, Then Dehradun

Rishikesh has no international airport. Almost every international student flies into Delhi (DEL), then continues to Rishikesh in one of three ways:

OptionJourney timeBest for
Domestic flight Delhi → Dehradun (DED, Jolly Grant)About 1 hour in the air, then about 1–1.5 hours by road to SwargashramMost students. Our free airport transfer meets you at Dehradun
Train Delhi → Haridwar or RishikeshAbout 4.5–6 hours, then a short taxiBudget travellers who arrive in daylight
Private taxi Delhi → RishikeshAbout 6–7 hours, depending on trafficLate-night arrivals and groups splitting the fare

Typical routes from abroad:

  • USA & Canada: nonstop flights to Delhi run from several major hubs. One-stop options via Europe or the Gulf are often cheaper.
  • UK & Ireland: London–Delhi nonstops take about 9 hours, and many students connect to Dehradun the same day.
  • Europe: nonstop or one-stop routes from most major cities, often via Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam or the Gulf.
  • Australia & New Zealand: usually one stop via Singapore, Southeast Asia or the Gulf, or nonstop from some Australian cities.

When to arrive: plan to land on the 1st or 2nd of the month. The course starts on the 3rd and attendance at every class is compulsory, so a day to recover from jet lag makes a real difference. Send us your flight number once it is booked so we can arrange your pickup.

Step 6: Budget for the Whole Trip, Not Just the Course

CostEstimateNotes

International flightVaries widelyBooking 8–12 weeks ahead is usually cheapest

Travel insuranceVariesStrongly recommended. Make sure it covers yoga
Personal spendingMost students spend modestlyThird meal, cafés, laundry, a SIM card, weekend outings

Planned this way, a 200 hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh from abroad usually costs less in total than a comparable course at home, even with flights included. For a full comparison with training fees at home, read how much a 200 hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh costs in 2026.

Step 7: Prepare Your Body and Your Bag

What Happens When You Arrive

Our driver meets you at Dehradun airport and takes you to the school in Swargashram. This side of the river is mostly pedestrian and much quieter than the busy cafés of Tapovan. You check into your room, settle the balance of the fee, and receive your timetable and course material. On the first evening, many students walk down to the ghats for the Ganga Aarti. The next morning, training begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book a 200 hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh?

Most international students book 8–12 weeks before the start date. That gives time for the e-Tourist visa, cheaper flights and leave from work. Batches are limited to 10 students, so December to February dates fill first.

Do I need a special visa for a 200 hour yoga course in India?

Most nationalities can use India’s e-Tourist visa, which covers short-term yoga programmes. A 24-day course fits within a 30-day e-Tourist visa, but a 1-year visa gives more flexibility. Always apply on the official Government of India e-Visa website.

Which airport is closest to Jeevatman Yogshala in Rishikesh?

Dehradun (DED, Jolly Grant) is the closest airport. Fly internationally into Delhi, then take a domestic flight of about one hour to Dehradun. The school in Swargashram is about 1–1.5 hours by road from the airport, and the course fee includes a free airport transfer.

How do I pay for the course from abroad?

You pay a USD 200 advance deposit online to reserve your place and pay the balance on arrival. The deposit is non-refundable but can be transferred to another batch within 6 months if you give at least 50 days’ written notice.

Can I arrive after the course has started?

No. The course starts on the 3rd of the month and attendance at every class is compulsory. Plan to arrive on the 1st or 2nd so you have a day to recover from jet lag.

Is a 200 hour certificate from India recognised in my country?

Our 200 hour course is certified by Yoga Alliance USA, so graduates can register as an RYT-200. Yoga Alliance registration is widely recognised by studios in the USA, UK, Europe and Australia, though some countries have their own rules for professional teaching.
