About Us – Jeevatman Yogshala in Rishikesh, India

line

Welcome to Jeevatman Yogshala, a place for self-realization and transformation through the practice of yoga. Situated in the holy town of Rishikesh, Jeevatman Yogshala provides an enriching experience for yoga practitioners from across the world.

( सर्वे कर्मवशा वयम्। )

‘Sarve Karmavasha Vayam’ means, ‘Everything is subject to karma’. This is a verse from the Anusandparva of the Mahabharata. We believe that individuals are accountable for their actions. The core of yoga philosophy lies in the concept of karma yoga, which advocates for selfless service on both physical and mental levels. The emphasis is on actions aligned with dharma, or righteousness. Karma yoga rises above the notions of success and failure, ego, selfishness, and duality of the world. Yoga teaches that every individual is connected with the divine universal spirit. Yoga is not just about some physical postures (asanas) but also involves mental, spiritual, and ethical concerns. With meditation, self-reflection, and mindfulness, individuals develop self-awareness, compassion, and a sense of connection with all living beings. By acknowledging that we are influenced by the outcomes of our actions, yoga enthusiasts can aspire to lead more conscious and responsible lives.

An Ashram to meet your inner-self through Yoga, Sound and Stillness

You don’t find your way to Jeevatman Yogshala by accident. You will feel a pull that will bring you here; A whisper from within that says: There is something more. There are places that teach yoga and then there are places that help you remember what you already are. Jeevatman Yogshala is not just another yoga school in Rishikesh. It is an envisioned sanctuary where humans come to reconnect with their soul, find their purpose, slow down and be seen without being judged. A place where yoga is not just about performing asana, but being present in the moment. Where your breath matters more than your posture and where who you are matters more than who you are trying to become.

Set in the holy town of Rishikesh, India – with Himalayas as the backdrop and sacred Maa Ganga flowing in the mid, Jeevatman is not built on branding. Our Yogashala is built on karma, connection and quiet courage. Our name Jeevatman, speaks to your soul. Our belief on सर्वे कर्मवशा वयम्” (Sarve Karma Vasha Vayam), reminds us that it is not fate or chance that shapes us but our choices, our actions and the path we walk with awareness.

When you step into the shala at Jeevatman, you enter a space where this awareness is alive. Not just a place where you are completing a yoga course while doing few asana, mantra chanting, pranayama, etc. But a place where you are gently guided to see your actions, reactions, habits and to move through them with breath, compassion and awareness.

“Sarve Karma Vasha Vayam” doesn’t ask us to be perfect it simply invites us to be present. It teaches us that:

  • The way we listen matters
  • The way we behave with others matters
  • The way we rise after falling matters
  • The way we speak, think and treat ourselves – all of it becomes Karma.

All of it shapes the Journey.

This is why our Yoga Courses don’t just focus on Learning or Performing Yoga – they focus on Living it. Whether you plan to join our 200 hour yoga teacher training course in Rishikesh or attend our sound healing course or simply sit in silence by the ghats of Maa Ganga, this truth will gently echo through your experience. You are not at Jeevatman by accident. You are here because something inside you chose. And what you do next… is Karma.

At our yoga shala we honour that. We don’t fix you. We don’t guide you toward some ideal. We simply walk beside you as you remember: That you are the cause. That you are the seed. That your every conscious breath is the beginning of change. And in that remembering… Yoga begins.

Beliefs of Jeevatman Yogshala

Yoga is not just a Practice – it is a way of living, seeing and being. We believe that every choice, every breath, every movement toward stillness is shaping something. Not just outside, but within. We are not here to create the most flexible students. We are here to hold space for evolution. And this is where our beliefs begin:

It is not about Performance. It is about Remembrance.

In our yoga shala we don’t believe yoga begins with advance postures. We believe it begins the moment you stop trying to impress and start trying to feel. The society keeps telling us to perform better, look better, teach better, heal faster. But Yoga tells us to pause, to take a breath, to find the stillness. At Jeevatman we believe that yoga is not about becoming someone new. It is about remembering and embracing the parts of you that were quiet, neglected or forgotten. We create supportive environment for that remembering.

The Guru is a Mirror, not a Master.

In our ashram the yoga teachers are not above you. They walk beside you with their presence and their experience. We believe that the best teaching does not come from instruction; it comes from embodiment. Our yoga gurus aren’t here to show off or dominate a space. They are here to remind you of your own wisdom. They are soft mirrors, reflecting the strength, stillness, and truth that already lives in you.

The Body is Not An Obstacle – it is The Doorway

There is nothing like ‘I need to fix my body’, it is more like ‘I need to honour my body.’ Your body holds your story. And Yoga, when practiced with compassion, becomes the language through which that story is heard; not judged, not pushed – just gently witnessed. At Jeevatman, we don’t ask you to do more. We ask you to listen more. Your body is your teacher too.

Slowness is a Form of Strength

In this rat race, where the world continuously pushes for more, faster, louder; we offer less, slower, quieter. We believe that slowness is not laziness, it is progressive return to your own rhythm. Our yoga classes are not rushed. Our courses are not packed. Our schedules leave space to breathe. Because big life shifts does not respond to pressure. It responds to presence.
